In todays travel market, the word luxury is used a lot. At Summit Retreats, we understand what it takes for a ski chalet to really be defined as luxury. It is more than just whether a chalet has a pool, or whether the chalet is constructed in a chocolate box picture perfect way. It is about the whole package, the service, the chalet features, the resort, and also the location in the resort.
The ultimate resort location for many, is right by the piste, so you have absolutely no need to worry about having to struggle along in those awkward ski boots, ski’s over the shoulder, with a tide of others heading to lifts at the same time in the morning.. Likewise, at the end of the day, being able to ski straight back to your chalet is a special feeling.
“Ski in, ski out” chalets are harder to come by than many think. Only a small number of resorts such as Courchevel 1850, Meribel and Alpe d’Huez have them in any sort of abundance, but below is a selection, in no particular order, of some of the best “ski in, ski out” chalets in the Alps.
Shemshak Lodge, Courchevel 1850
Sleeping up to 10 adults and 3 children in 5 en-suite bedrooms, the chalet is alpine chic at its best, with luxurious materials and furnishings designed by a top London interior designer. Shemshak Lodge is a stunning chalet situated in an enviable position on the piste in the fabulous Courchevel 1850
Hidden Dragon, Veysonnaz
Perched at 1500m, Hidden Dragon is positioned to offer enchanting uninterrupted panoramic views over the Rhone Valley and offers skiers the benefit of ski-in ski-out access. Away from the crowds, the queues, the noise, and the chaos of urban life, Hidden Dragon is an idyllic exclusive hideaway.
Chalet Lapin Blanc, Meribel
A “ski in, ski out” chalet situated at the bottom of the Georges Mauduit piste, it is only seconds from the main lift centre of Meribel and the ski school meeting points, also only a short walk from the centre of Méribel. Situated on the East side of the valley the chalet has wonderful views towards the Tougnette side of the mountain.
Chalet Gentiannes, Courchevel 1850
Chalet Gentianes is found in arguable the best location in Courchevel. A winter-wonderland, surrounded by snow covered trees, it truly is a “ski-in, ski-out” chalet. The chalet has been built in a sympathetic alpine style with wood interiors, exposed ceiling beams and a cosy fireplace in the living room.
Chalet La Ferme, Alpe d’Huez
As part of a development of five chalets, known collectively as Le Village, this chalet is located at the top of town and next to all the main lifts. Built around an atmospheric cobbled courtyard at a giddying altitude of 2000m, and surrounded on two sides by piste, the five chalets of Le Village characterise the ultimate in “ski in, ski out” convenience.
